Thank you for the interesting comments Luke. My intuitions about mindfulness are similar to yours; I also feel that meditation practice allows me to better recognize thoughts and feelings as they emerge. There may well be efforts to combine neurofeedback with mindfulness practice within academic literature but I haven’t yet looked into this in detail.

Presumably, if you could identify a clear marker of “mindfulness progress” in the brain, and then use neurofeedback to provide people with signals that their brain is entering this mode when they meditate, that would assist with meditation practice and facilitate quicker improvements.
