The authors of the study focused on two variants (i.e. alleles) for the human PRKG1 gene. One was the A allele (the sitter variant) and one was the C allele (the rover variant). The effects of cautious exploration applied primarily to people with an AA genotype, which means they inherited an A allele from both of their parents.
Among the participants in the study, the researchers reported that ~50% of people had the AA genotype, ~40% had the CA genotype, and ~10% had the CC genotype. They also reported that these proportions were in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium.
